The First Day of Spring
(take 2 - Windows Live Writer ate my nearly complete post Monday morning!)
.... and I think I have gained back a few pounds. I went to Lost Wages this past weekend to spend time with family. My dad offered to cook for me, so of course I asked for turkey mole. And rice, salad, corn tortillas, mexican cheese ... my tummy is rumbling as I think about it. We also ate breakfast at Denny's both mornings, the Mad Greek for lunch on Sunday, and a snack stop at Alien Jerky.
For breakfast I made the healthiest choice I could and still get full. They have a new Blueberry Slam - whole wheat pancakes with blueberries, fruit on the side (or hashbrown), turkey bacon, and eggs (with or without cheese). To be honest, I got my eggs with cheese. They taste less powdery that way.
I still haven't found my scale. Or my measuring tape. It makes it hard to determine if I have lost or gained in the last week. Pretty sure I have gained since I am dehydrated and retaining water (it still baffles me how those two go together) and I can no longer shimmy into a size 12. My size 14 work pants needed the extra help of some shape wear this morning. Thank goodness it's chilly and I can wear a big sweater! So my goal this week is to up my water intake. I am still walking between 5-11K steps per day, and if I don't have 2000 by the time I get to work I feel like I am slacking. My morning walk to the train has also become something of a power walk, just short of making me sweat. We hoof it and make it in 7 minutes as opposed to the leisurely 10-15 when simply strolling. Hopefully that offsets some of the comfort eating and drinking I have been doing in the past week. It got a little stressful.
) for mid-afternoon snack rather than the candy.
In a healthy snack I look for more fiber and vitamins and less processed sugar. Which is hard for me because I know that I am a carb addict. The kind that goes through major withdrawals without something wheat based during the day. Or baked. I can eat a lot of fruit and feel more satisfied than when eating candy bars, and there isn't the sugar crash to think of later. I also love dried fruit, especially dried cranberries. I buy Costco-sized bags along with pistachios, mix in some dark chocolate chips and voila! Sweet and salty snack that also kills the craving monster.

I am most definitely a sweet snacker, I love to bake. I love to eat other people's baked goods. When 3PM rolls around at work, one of the HR ladies knows that I will be there to peruse her candy platter. She lays out Butterfinger Crisps and Twix! I try to limit myself to two fun-size bars and now a Fiber One brownie. I also try to take fruit or protein bars (especially Snickers MarathonBLOGGING CARNIVAL: This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popping Corn.
