Mamavation Monday: 200

November 1, 2010

feet-scale-tapemeasure-de 200 is a number I never wanted to see on my scale. And a few weeks ago I saw it.  Black and white. Re-calibrating my scale didn't change the fact that I was now 50+ pounds overweight for my height and frame. Time to get serious. That, and now my blouses are starting to not fit in addition to my pants. And I really don't like wearing skirts. Or shape wear.

Over the summer I tried a few things, but couldn't stick with them. I'm sleep deprived enough. And not all that self-disciplined when it comes to working out. I used to have a more active lifestyle, and I was the girl you loved to hate because I could eat like a horse and the weight would. not. stick. At one point my grandmother threatened to put me in the hospital because I was losing weight for no apparent reason (it was stress related to finals) but I had dropped back down to 115 (I'm 5'9"). I want to get back to the weight I was at 25 – a fairly healthy 135-140. My current weight is maintaining at 195 for the last two weeks. I fluctuate between 195.6 and 195.4. At least I haven't gone back up.

Right now I am just tracking my weight, exercise, and food intake using a combination of tools available on my phone. I use Fatsecret.com Calorie Counter for food and weight, CardioTrainer for exercise (and sometimes DailyMile).  Now to get my hydration levels up (I drink between 16.9 oz – 20oz/day) and a little more movement other than typing and fidgeting in my seat.

Follow my progress on FatSecret.

  1. I'm trying like mad now to get back below 200... the closer you are the more evil the number seems, right?

I use cardio trainer too, and I like it, except that it doesn't post to twitter!

Keep it up, and I'm looking forward to reading more from you!

  2. Do not get frustrated, it is a number and you have the right tools to fight it. I'd say, little steps - water is easy, but you might need a little more than 20 oz. How about 2 liters (64 oz)? It is easier than you think. Buy 2 liter bottle, fill it with water and carry it with you (You can start with 1 if you want to). You have it in your hands, you will drink it a little at a time and that will take you a lot further. Studies say, when we feel thirst, we are already dehydrated. Good Luck!

  3. My phone is constantly with me and I love that fatsecret lets you scan barcodes. It saves so much time when it comes to tracking what you are eating and drinking.

Thanks so much for the encouragement.

  4. That darn 200 number can sneak up on anyone, at least you caught it quick. Thanks for the app recommendations. I needed something to make it easier. Good luck.

  6. Don't let the number on the scale define you - you are more than that number. I WISH I was down to 200 but I will be again soon and then I'll keep going. You can do it too!!! So Glad you found Mamavation because it will help keep you focused and accountable. I have been using Myfitnesspal to log food and exercise because it too is on my phone and I ALWAYS have my phone with me - but the real "trick" is to find what works best for you. So glad you found tools that you are liking :)

As for the Water... it was hard at first to get in water - What I do is always keep my cup nearby - and it ALWAYS has a straw in it (weird???) because I personally drink more from a straw than from a regular glass or bottle. Again, find the tricks that work for you -

:) Looking forward to getting to know more about you on this journey :)

  7. We all have that number on the scale that spurs us into action. It's not supposed to be all about the weight, but sometimes it's hard to forget. That scale verification usually accompanies feeling miserable in general. I suffer the same problem as you - seated for much of the day, and probably sleep deprived too. Don't get discouraged.

  8. I have a hard time drinking 100oz of liquid/day period. It takes me almost 3 hours to drink one cup of coffee unless I need an immediate jolt. Reading the other #Mamavation posts, there's a great idea on http://simplylivingonabudget.blogspot.com/2010/11/mamavation-monday-all-me-and-blueberry.htm to flavor your water with frozen berries.
