Yes, we finally have a space with natural light and a view. The computer set-up isn't that great though. I'll take a photo of that after the guy is done tweaking settings for us.

How to refill a "disposable" Brita brand water pitcher filter with activated carbon.

March 27, 2008
Just in time I get this in my inbox. My filter needs to be replaced. Though I jusst might buy it off amazon.

How to refill a "disposable" Brita brand water pitcher filter with activated carbon.

Why buy a replacement filter for $6 to $10 (or more) when you can refill your old filter cartridge housing for about 50 cents?!

Refilling is quick, easy and economical. If you can refill a salt shaker, then you should be able to refill a Brita, PuR, or other brand water pitcher cartridges. All that...

Tobey Maguire Jumps to Another Comic Book - Cinematical

Tobey Maguire Jumps to Another Comic Book

According to The Hollywood Reporter, everyone's favorite webslinger is tackling another comic book adaptation. Tobey Maguire is teaming up with Neal Moritz to produce Afterburn, a comic series published by Red 5 Comics. There's no word yet if Maguire plans to star, or if he's sticking behind the scenes on this one. No writer has been assigned to adapt.

Afterburn is a sci-fi adventure set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, where the Eastern Hemisphere has been destroyed by a massive solar flare. Those who survived have mutated due to the radioactive fallout. In this bleak setting lives a group of treasure hunters, who are happy to track down priceless treasures like the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone, and the Crown Jewels -- for the right price. After all, they have to combat rival hunters, mutants and pirates. It sounds like Tomb Raider meets the X-Men. It's been getting pretty good reviews across the Internet, so I may just have to check it out since I'm a sucker for anything involving treasure hunters.

The first issue only just hit the stands in January. Incidentally, Red 5 was started by Paul Ens, the former director of StarWars.com and Lucas Online, and Scott Chitwood, who co-founded TheForce.net, and contributes to Comingsoon.net and SuperheroHype.com. Yay for Internet success stories! You should pop on over

Tobey Maguire will next be seen in Tropic Thunder in a cameo appearance. I always hate when those get spoiled, but no word on what the cameo will be, at least. He's also developing and producing a live action adaptation of the anime classic Robotech.

You could see the black smoke from miles away yesterday. This is actually off the 405 near the Carson/Long Beach border. There were 4 fires, but 2 were really burning something off.

Tagged is EVIL

I am sooooo sorry and apologize to anyone who got spammed by Tagged yesterday. I did use the "see if anyone I know is here" thing and I swear I clicked "clear all" and then selected only the people that used the service already. But as I quickly saw (and was notified) that's not what happened.

I'm mainly a Facebook and MySpace user.

Again, so sorry. Please don't hate me.

New ladies' vodka

March 20, 2008

New ladies' vodka gives doctors a headache | Oddly Enough | Reuters: "'Women need a drink of their own,' said Volodin, sitting next to an array of his 'Ladies' vodkas, which comes in lime, vanilla and almond flavors, or just straight for cocktails.

'In Moscow, there are pink taxis for ladies, there are light cigarettes,' he said. 'But there was no vodka, and we asked ourselves: 'Why?' ... More people suffer from diabetes in Russia than from alcoholism, but no one bans chocolate advertisements.'"

I wouldn't mind trying some of these flavors. I LOVE the Absolut flavored vodkas. But I can see the concern about the marketing tactics.

Encouragement :)

March 19, 2008
Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually.. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies.. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit.. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry.. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you

Remember those dirt-cheap refurbished iPhones we mentioned you could snag in-store? Well it looks like AT&T has decided to share the bounty with the public at large, and has begun taking orders for the $249 8GB models online. If you've been on the fence, here's your chance to get in for $150 less than retail (and sadly for you early adopters, a whopping $350 tumble in price). In our experience, you can grab one in person with no activation, though it looks like you'll have to sign on the dotted line to have it delivered.

Update: According to our commenters, you can get these mailed to you activation / contract free.
