Character Counts

November 29, 2007
OK, so I have to brag. I'm not at the assembly, but Tim is and he just let me know that Joy got the character award(s) for always helping and being respectful and caring. That's my girl. =D

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

Life & Thanksgiving

I know this has become more a photoblog lately and less of random profound thoughts than it used to be (feel free to laugh :D). Lately I just haven't had the energy to be a blogger, let alone a writer, and I rarely blog the things going on in my private life, since most of my readers already know what's going on (or now how to IM and/or e-mail to get the real scoop). Suffice it to say that I have been SUPER stressed out lately and distracted by RL when not depressed by it.

So ... I want to thank all the people who have stood by me, encouraged me, verbally slapped some sense into me, and walked with me through some very dark valleys this past year. I am EXTREMELY grateful. And would appreciate it if I could prevail on you just a little longer, because I think it's going to get infinitely worse before it gets better. You guys have been a real blessing to me, and if I haven't before, I'm publicly declaring my thanks and love right here.

Zoe update

November 20, 2007
She's doing much better now. She has energy (not the whopping amount that we are used to), but at least she has an interest in life again. And scrounging. No more vomiting and Tim said she had a clean crate this morning. Next on the list ... a bland diet till the runny poops stop.

Work

November 19, 2007
Today I learned how to automatically number rows of a spreadsheet in Excel and set the print area. I also learned that banners are different things depending on who is the webmaster and marketing agent for a company. But hey, I'm back in the content management arena, 'tis a good thing. This and taking care of kids is what I do well (enough) :)

Zoe Update

She's getting subcutaneous I.V. for her fluids until she can take ice chips and then pedialyte (yes, Pedialyte) and then chicken broth and plain white rice.  Once she progresses through all of those without further vomiting and diarrhea she can go back to regular food and water. Think of a massive case of the worst stomach flu and you can't take any Immodium or Pepto. That's what Zoe is going through. But at least she's getting better. Tim said her energy level is up and she's wanting to go outside to do her business instead of just lay there while it happens uncontrollably.

More tonight after her next infusion.

parvo

November 18, 2007
Zoe has parvo. :-( Right now I'm at the vet debating whether to admit her or do outpatient care. I brought along a friend who just saved me $1200 by asking the right questions, so I'm probably going to do outpatient. Zoe is so lethargic ... It's heartbreaking. The vet thinks she'll recover fine since she's older and larger.

They just took her blood to do some tests, it looked like sludge. Eye crusties, red eyes, sitting in her own bloody diarrhea this morning... I hope we're starting treatment in time.

I took this one on our first road trip to Vegas back in 2004. I thought the shadow of the van on the desert was a cool effect.

Vetter Mountain Trail Lookout Hike

We went on a 3-4 mile dog-friendly hike that I found in Favorite Dog Hikes In and Around Los Angeles. This book has a LOT of hikes that I want to try with Zoe, though this one, while great for her, proved exactly how out-of-shape I am. I was huffing and puffing by the time we got to the top. Going back to the car was MUCH easier and faster. I can do 4-5 miles on a flat surface no problem, the elevation on this hike reminded me of the elliptical. Ah, but ... I have to get out more. Fresh air does a body good.

Here are a few photos. There were some totally awesome views from the mountains.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies". I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.

For now...
