Google Memorial Day logo

May 31, 2007
On Monday, May 28, 2007, Google once again failed to create a special logo to mark Memorial Day -- exactly as they fail to do every year, despite the fact that they mark dozens of lesser or contrived "holidays" with special logos.

Google's so-called excuse for this behavior is laughable:

If we were to commemorate this holiday, we'd want to express reverence; however, as Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature, this would be a particularly challenging design. We wouldn't want to create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful in any way.

Considering that Google has a large staff of professional graphic designers -- just how difficult could it be to come up with a respectful design? They've even featured many logos submitted by Google users.

The goal is to create a logo that is respectful, tactful, and reflecting the spirit of Memorial Day. For inspiration, go to this page and click on "More Holiday Logos" at the upper right to see all the previous special holiday logos that Google has ever used. This page explains the meaning and history of Memorial Day : "This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country."

Winning entries will be displayed here as they are selected.

My favorites are the Iwo Jima logo and the wall in DC that lists all the Vietnam vets.

WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope I don't jinx it, but my taskbar just came back along with my desktop and everything. I am soooooo happy! It makes things easier to do.

We're at the zoo today. Trillium Farm is one of the places we have to stop every time. If you give then a bit of straw it's easier to pet the goats.

Tim's Roadtrip

May 27, 2007
Tim got into Redding last night about 1. He left here about 2:30, later than we had planned. Pray for him, will ya. Safe trip, that he stays awake and that the CHP stay away.

New do (again)

So, this is the first time my hair has been properly relaxed in quite a long time. Glo does an AWESOME job on my hair, and she's mainly responsible for it growing so well and being so healthy. I'm quite happy with the results. Let's hope it looks this good in the morning (yeah, we got done late)

Can you beleive that's all my hair??? It hasn't been this long in ... ever. Or maybe just after I had Josh.

Dove Quotes

May 18, 2007
Chocolate always loves you back.

Temptation is fun ... giving in is even better.

Share a sunset.

Excercise your heart today.

Hold hands firmly, hearts gently.

Celebrate family and friends.

Laugh until your hearts overflows.

Get swept away by love.

Listen with your heart.

A gentle touch speaks volumes.

The best things in life are chocolate.

Send a love letter this week.

Smile. People will wonder what you've been up to.

Express what's in your heart.

Go to your special place.

Hug someone today.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Concentration is the game...

Another one of those days where I can’t concentrate. Can you imagine how ANNOYING it is to want to be able to read a good book, like Good Omens, and then not being able to focus clearly on the words, concepts, timeline, characters, etc.? Damn annoying, that’s for sure! So here we are, playing UNO, and in between I am blogging, trying to read, drinking my yummy Razzamatazz Jamba Juice, and listening to a co-worker go on about her crusie (she’s going in about a month) and wishing I could go with her, and trying to decide if I want extensions again or if I should just have my natural hair braided, or try to relax it, or … wow, I haven’t had a run-on sentence since 4th grade.

Ah well, more later, gonna try and get back to Good Omens before lunch. What am I having for lunch anyway? I need to stop eating out, it’s not good for our budget.

Foggy

May 14, 2007

I am having a very DOWN day. I wish I knew why. The sun is up and shining, it's supposed to be 80 or therabouts, and I am having an episode where I just want to cry, or stay in bed, or just ... I dunno.

Can I chalk this up to a bad case of TTOTM?

I'm trying really hard to be positive and think positively, "accentuate the positive"but it ain't happening. It's more wearying than .. than ... let's just say that I feel like Sisyphus and maintaining a good mood is my rock. Anyway, a general cloud of malaise has settled over me and it's going to be real hard. Not even the sun seems able to cut through this fog.

Bowling

May 10, 2007
Lesson learned:Fake nails and mild CTS do not make it easy to hit 100 when bowling... Especially the nails :(

Stamps

Great, I get back into postcrossing and the postal rates go up. I think I'll have just enough stamps to cover the increase

muhahahhahaha

I just got a co-worker into Postcrossing. She saw me doing postcards (bad me! logging into gmail at work, but there is a bunch of availablity, though it's not even noon and I have taken 26 calls) and asked what I was doing. So ... the other day I got her set up with a Gmail account since she couldn't remember her other email address, and now she has something to do with it! She got herself set up in Postcrossing, I just told her where to go. Borrowed one of my cards and stamps and I am going to drop them off after work. I need more stamps (hey Peggy! help a sister out? =) ) It's only fair. She's getting me into Country

Now ... who else can I turn into a moderate snail mail addict? It's FUN! Even though 5/6 postcards are going to Finland ... even my co-worker's.

Update, between us, went sent off 9 postcards today.

location: work

You Should Be Dancing!

(written in pieces while watching Idol)
WOOT! Blake! BeeGee's songs are hard. Tim asked "who kicked him in the crotch?" and I, of course, still love his bee-boxin. Not sure I liked the blonde chunk in the front though.

But hey, it's disco.

Ok, give Lakiesha props, I like her version of "Stayin' Alive" even if the judges don't.

what is Melinda going to rock? (Apparently I missed her first song)

HOLY COW!!!! I think Jordin is my new fave. Did you hear that???

Ok, so .... I still like Blake and will vote for him out of loyalty

Judge Judy likes Idol?????????????????

Jordin ROCKS, and I don;t care, Blake's first song was fun.

and now it is time for House

Home Sick

This sucks! First beautiful day in weeks and i'm home in bed with either the stomach flu or food poisoning. WHY can't it be a gloomy day? My boss probably thinks I'm taking a sick day due to good weather -- yes, Oregonians take sick days due to good weather. only good thing about this is the bloat has gone down.

Advanced Grammar

May 4, 2007
We're going to be relocating over the summer, and last night our daughter quite plainly said:

"Daddy?"

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"I have a problem with moving."

Now, I was slightly stunned at her choice and use of words....but once I recovered my wit, I said "What's the problem?"

"We can't take my toys in the toy box."

Ahhh....easily resolved. I assured her we could take her toys and toy box with us....

Laptop go boom

Yeah, it did. So any posts now will be from my phone or made surrepticiously while at work. This bites.

So um yeah, happy blogging.

What time is it? It's Spidey time!

WOOT!!!! We have a sitter and we are going tonight! Unlike jinx who saw it last night (brat, not that I could stay up past 8:30 PM myself) I couldn’t attend the midnight showing. And I still have to go get my Spidey hat. I haven’t made the time this week. I was thinking of painting my nails red and blue, or red and black, but that requires going and buying nail polish. Yes, there is that much time available at work, especially if I got the super quick drying stuff.

Ok, back to my book (Kane & Abel by Jeffery Archer)

And I got the theme from Comic Book Resources – all sorts of themes

For all you subscribers

May 3, 2007
If you happen to be getting a lot of old posts that you notice are not showing on the main page, it's because I am going through all my drafts and finally getting them published. I have a LOT of drafts. Some from this year, many more from last year. You're not crazy and the system is not broken, I'm just cleaning things up while my boss is otherwise occupied and we have some availability :)

Blake rocked and I missed it???

May 2, 2007
I missed Blake!!!

And I heard he ROCKED last night. Not to mention that I love Bon Jovi, so I need to have Tim record it tonight. GOTTA see Bon Jovi. So ... Does the American Idol website have clips of the performances? I gotta see my funky white boy. A co-worker who has been all about Chris this season is now a Blake-lover too :)

So, Blake and Melinda for the final 2?
