2nd day of training
Something about snow makes me happy. i ddefinitely don't want to drive in it, but I do want play in it. Wouldn't mind still owning Jaeger. In hindsight we should have kept him. I could have made it work. He listened to me. And he LOVES (loved?) the snow. *sigh* hindsight is 20/20.
Just trying to stay awake, would much rather be reading Army of (Cl)one or Capt. Picard's Journal, or catching up on email, anything to keep my mind active, and off my cramping. I brought Tylenol quick release but can't get the case open that I put them in. How sad is that? I also brought "Excellent Wife" to work on Chapter 3 if I get the chance. Right now my leg is fidgeting and I just want to go back to sleep. No more snow coming down at this time and the sun has gone away. "Please don't take my sunshine away ..."

Now we're going over the basics of searching an online database (think Google but not nearly as smart nor as comprehensive). And learning what the icons mean in Adobe Acrobat. I wish I had brought a book. But at least it looks like I am paying some attention by writing. The drawback to being a smarty-pants -- 1st thought "This stuff is pretty self-explanatory ... why are we going over it?" 2nd thought "Uh, maybe everyone doesn't get it" Why can't the trainer ask how comfortable we are with some programs?
I am sooooooooooooo sleepy, there go my eyes

FW: Subject: Warning - Worm Overload
Annette
===========
I find it interesting that the meanest life, the poorest existence, is attributed to God's will, but as human beings become more affluent, as their living standard and style begin to ascend the material scale, God descends the scale of responsibility at commensurate speed.
--Maya Angelou, 1970
There is a virus being passed around electronically, orally, and by hand. This virus is called Worm-Overload-Recreational-Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from any of your colleagues, your boss, or anyone else via any means DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come into contact with WORK put your jacket on and take two good friends to the nearest grocery store. Purchase the antidote known as Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract (WINE) or Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system. You should forward this warning to 5 friends. If you do not have 5 friends, you have already been infected and WORK is controlling your life.
Shadowmagic
By John Lenahan
A novel serialised as a weekly podcast by Podiobooks.com
“Hi, my name is Conor. Other than my father being a bit of an eccentric lunatic, my life was pretty normal until I got attacked in my living room and whisked away to Tir na Nog, the mystical land of the ancient Celts, where it turns out Dad is the usurped heir to the throne and everybody wants me dead because of some prophecy. Don’t you just hate when that happens?”
Shadowmagic is a rip roaring fun fantasy adventure novel by John Lenahan very loosely based on Irish mythology where every chapter ends on the edge of a cliff (or at least a high curb.) Join Conor as he grapples with typical teenage problems like, how to deal with a father’s high expectations, how to survive in the world on your own and how to woo a beautiful girl - that wants you dead. Shadowmagic a podcast novel for young adults from 12 to 112."

Stress Management
A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?"
Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g.
The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."
He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. So, before you return home tonight, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment if you can. "
"Relax; pick them up later after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it!
And then he shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:
- Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
- Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.
- Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
- Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.
- If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
- If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
- It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
- Never buy a car you can't push.
- Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
- Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
- Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
- The second mouse gets the cheese.
- When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
- Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
- You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
- Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
- We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
- A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. .
. . . . . . . . I did.
Hospital faces Skid Row dumping charges - Yahoo! News
Hospital faces Skid Row dumping charges - Yahoo! News: "In the case against Kaiser, a 63-year-old patient from Kaiser Permanente's Bellflower hospital was recorded on surveillance video in March wandering Skid Row in a hospital gown.
She had continuing, untreated serious health problems when she was found by a homeless shelter's staff, Delgadillo said.
'Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, part of Kaiser Permanente, the largest HMO in the nation, will be held accountable for violating state law, its commitment to its patients, its obligations under the Hippocratic oath, and perhaps most importantly, principals of common decency,' Delgadillo said.
The legal action was the first in Los Angeles and experts said it appeared to be unprecedented nationally. Delgadillo said the charges and a civil lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente are a first step in holding hospitals accountable."
Kahlua & Cream
I am up, losing my mind, wishing I could call any of my old IRC pals, but most of them are married or live in a timezone where 10 years ago it was late, but now it would be unspeakable for me to call at this time of night. Not to mention that they don't get on as much as they used to. I'm having a flashback to the mid-90s. Loup and jetfish and Asteroth talked me through a lot of bad nights. Especially the Wolf and Fish. So, I forgot to take my pills this morning and I am paying for it now. I took a half dose about 45 minutes ago and I am still waiting for it to kick in. I nearly fidgeted myself out of bed and took Tim with me. then I remembered how much Kahlua and cream used to make me sleepy, so I am drinking that while blogging and trying not to mentally self-flagellate myself into a mental breakdown. I can't have a mental breakdown, I have to go to work tomorrow. Besides, they scare Josh, or at least they used to. I haven't had one for a while now. I'm losing it, totally and completely losing it, only this time I don't have anyone to help bring me back down. So i drink and hope I get soporific soon.
Speaking of drinking...
A wise man once said, "I drink, therefore I am!" An interesting comment indeed, but what does it mean? Well we think we have the answer. Every personality contains a lot of traits. This test aims to determine, from your name alone, the most dominant personality traits and give you a fun little recipe for your own personality cocktail. Perhaps you and your friends can have a little Personality cocktail party and compare results! We hope the concoctions this test generates don't leave a bad taste in your mouth. Oh and remember, always drink in moderation - we don't want you getting tipsy on personalities now do we!

The All-powerful delete key
So, I woke up this morning to the daunting prospect of wading through 400+ unread emails. I love the sort from "From" feature in Outlook. With judicious use of the delete key and sorting a few into folders (why aren't my rules working?) I took it from 400+ to 186. I can now shower, dress, and take my daughter to Pre-School story time at the Library.
Happy Tuesday.

FYI: Tylenol recall
Millions of bottles of acetaminophen recalled for metal fragments
November 9, 2006—A major manufacturer of store-brand acetaminophen has recalled 11 million bottles of the pain-relieving drug after discovering some were contaminated with metal fragments. Perrigo Co. found 200 caplets that contained metal fragments among 70 million that were passed through a metal detector. The fragments ranged in size from "microdots" to portions of wire one-third of an inch long. Wal-Mart, CVS Corp., Walgreen Co., and Costco Wholesale Corp. are among companies that Perrigo supplies with healthcare products
The FDA did not know in which states the pills had been sold, but instead recommended that customers determine whether products they bought are being recalled by checking the store list on the FDA Web site and the batch list.

Say Thank You
If you go to this website, http://www.letssaythanks.com, you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it, and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them...
That boy ...
Is going to be the death of me. He drives me crazy, he needs to be micromanaged to do his chores, which I tell you, is no fun. Makes a mom either want to tell him to go away so I can do it the right way or strangle him for being so obtuse.
This morning I got him up early to re-do some of his chores and in the middle he asks me why I didn't get him up last night. I told that I was pretty upset and didn't want to deal with it. Well, that and Joy was actually asleep by 9:30 so Tim and I had the chance to go to bed at a decent hour and I really, really, really, really did not want to deal with him. Snuggling and watching House took priority. I felt the Black mama thing coming on. Though, as Tim has pointed out more and more often, Josh might need another dose of that. The flip side is, when I do that, my heart does it's special thing and I end up (in my own eyes) looking like a wimp because I can't enforce what I just said without either having a conniption fit (a la Bill Cosby) or practically passing out because I can't breathe properly.
Anyway, I told him that I would put dishes away and any that were dirty he would hand-wash. I then realized that I couldn't supervise his hand washing of the dishes because I would be at work. So my poor hubby has to do it. Why is parenting such hard work?

Viking ship to ply North Sea; no invasion planned
POSTED: 10:15 a.m. EST, November 10, 2006COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Dozens of volunteer sailors will follow in the wake of the Vikings next summer, crossing the North Sea to Ireland in a 100-foot (30-meter) replica of a Norse warship, museum officials said Friday.
The slender long ship, named Havhingsten, or Stallion of the Sea, is one of the most ambitious Viking ship reconstructions to date, experts said. It has been modeled after a nearly 1,000-year-old vessel that was excavated in the Roskilde fjord, west of Copenhagen, the Danish capital.
On July 2, the vessel will set sail from Roskilde with a crew of 65 who hope to learn more about Viking seamanship on a seven-week, 1,000-mile (1,700-kilometer) journey to Dublin -- a city founded by Vikings.
"We will not sail dressed as Vikings, but we will try to understand how the ship and crew coped," said Martin Brandt Djupdraet, curator of the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
The volunteer crew from Britain, Ireland, the United States, Germany, Australia and Scandinavian countries has been testing the ship off Denmark since Queen Margrethe christened it in 2004.
The long ship will head north to Scotland and sail down through the Irish Sea. The ports of call on the way to Dublin have not been announced yet. It is due to sail back to Denmark in 2008.
The long ship was built by craftsmen using Viking-era tools, but its navigation equipment will be modern. It will be fitted with radar, a radio, a global positioning system and modern safety equipment. Crew members also will report daily online about the journey.
The original warship was built in 1042 in Glendalough, south of Dublin.

Enter the dragon ... Téméraire by Naomi Novik
First hobbits then a giant gorilla and now Peter Jackson is turning his hand to an air force of dragons, manned by crews of aviators.
Téméraire, a historical fantasy book series that sees squadrons of dragons fighting in the Napoleonic wars, has captured the imagination of the Lord of the Rings director.
The plot centres on British naval captain Will Laurence, who seizes a French ship and discovers an unhatched dragon egg - a gift from the emperor of China to Napoleon. When the egg hatches, he is forced to become the dragon's keeper. The monster is called Téméraire (meaning 'Daring' in French).
