more training

Deep sigh - a break every hour would be nice. I'm lost. Actually, no I'm bored. Not out of my mind, not yet. But close. Another one bites the dust @ 2:00PM EST (that's 11AM PST) -- been on the same training module since 7:30 AM. My patience was wearing thin, I was getting noticeably snappish and irritated and my sense of humor has left the building.

2nd day of training

So what do you do when bored out of your mind? Me, I write and daydream about the snow I see outside the window of my training room. The clouds are breaking up, the sun is coming out, the blue is showing. It's absolutely beautiful. There's not a lot of snow out, but just enough to foster daydreaming and make kids and adults alike pray for more. We want to go out and PLAY! Something about snow makes me happy. i ddefinitely don't want to drive in it, but I do want play in it. Wouldn't mind still owning Jaeger. In hindsight we should have kept him. I could have made it work. He listened to me. And he LOVES (loved?) the snow. *sigh* hindsight is 20/20. Just trying to stay awake, would much rather be reading Army of (Cl)one or Capt. Picard's Journal, or catching up on email, anything to keep my mind active, and off my cramping. I brought Tylenol quick release but can't get the case open that I put them in. How sad is that? I also brought "Excellent Wife" to

Joy's Christmas List

Image
I came home from work Wednesday evening to be shown that Joy had been practicing her writing. I was able to read everything except bathrobe .. because well, the letters are on a slope :) Most of the letters Joy writes just by looking at them and then drawing. We are working on tracing letters which is why some of her letters are quite good :) Translation Joy's Christmas List (what she wrote, with Tim spelling for her) - Power Wheels - Motorcycle -Bathrobe (what Tim wrote while Joy dictated) Toy Soldier battery Rabbit Slippers

Green Eggs and Ham

Joy reading Green Eggs and Ham to Auntie Kayla. She got a little tired and Kayla finished the book. (BTW, it's a 10 minute video)

FW: Subject: Warning - Worm Overload

The things I get from my family ... Annette =========== I find it interesting that the meanest life, the poorest existence, is attributed to God's will, but as human beings become more affluent, as their living standard and style begin to ascend the material scale, God descends the scale of responsibility at commensurate speed. -- Maya Angelou , 1970 Subject: Warning - Worm Overload There is a virus being passed around electronically, orally, and by hand. This virus is called Worm-Overload-Recreational-Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from any of your colleagues, your boss, or anyone else via any means DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come into contact with WORK put your jacket on and take two good friends to the nearest grocery store. Purchase the antidote known as Work-Isolating-Neutralizer-Extract (WINE) or Bothersome-Employer-Elimination-Rebooter (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has be

Shadowmagic

I am loving this book. I caught up with the author and now I want to BUY the book so I can finish it! By John Lenahan A novel serialised as a weekly podcast by Podiobooks.com “ Hi, my name is Conor. Other than my father being a bit of an eccentric lunatic, my life was pretty normal until I got attacked in my living room and whisked away to Tir na Nog, the mystical land of the ancient Celts, where it turns out Dad is the usurped heir to the throne and everybody wants me dead because of some prophecy. Don’t you just hate when that happens?” Shadowmagic is a rip roaring fun fantasy adventure novel by John Lenahan very loosely based on Irish mythology where every chapter ends on the edge of a cliff (or at least a high curb.) Join Conor as he grapples with typical teenage problems like, how to deal with a father’s high expectations, how to survive in the world on your own and how to woo a beautiful girl - that wants you dead. Shadowmagic a podcast novel for young adults from 12 to 112."

Stress Management A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 20g to 500g. The lecturer replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." He continued, "And that's the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on. As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. So, before you return home tonight,

Hospital faces Skid Row dumping charges - Yahoo! News

to quote Josh "oh mylanta!" well this certainly goes against their "Thrive" ad campaign. Hospital faces Skid Row dumping charges - Yahoo! News : "In the case against Kaiser, a 63-year-old patient from Kaiser Permanente's Bellflower hospital was recorded on surveillance video in March wandering Skid Row in a hospital gown. She had continuing, untreated serious health problems when she was found by a homeless shelter's staff, Delgadillo said. 'Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, part of Kaiser Permanente, the largest HMO in the nation, will be held accountable for violating state law, its commitment to its patients, its obligations under the Hippocratic oath, and perhaps most importantly, principals of common decency,' Delgadillo said. The legal action was the first in Los Angeles and experts said it appeared to be unprecedented nationally. Delgadillo said the charges and a civil lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente are a first step in holding hospitals ac

Kahlua & Cream

I am up, losing my mind, wishing I could call any of my old IRC pals, but most of them are married or live in a timezone where 10 years ago it was late, but now it would be unspeakable for me to call at this time of night. Not to mention that they don't get on as much as they used to. I'm having a flashback to the mid-90s. Loup and jetfish and Asteroth talked me through a lot of bad nights. Especially the Wolf and Fish. So, I forgot to take my pills this morning and I am paying for it now. I took a half dose about 45 minutes ago and I am still waiting for it to kick in. I nearly fidgeted myself out of bed and took Tim with me. then I remembered how much Kahlua and cream used to make me sleepy, so I am drinking that while blogging and trying not to mentally self-flagellate myself into a mental breakdown. I can't have a mental breakdown, I have to go to work tomorrow. Besides, they scare Josh, or at least they used to. I haven't had one for a while now. I'm losing it,

The All-powerful delete key

So, I woke up this morning to the daunting prospect of wading through 400+ unread emails. I love the sort from "From" feature in Outlook. With judicious use of the delete key and sorting a few into folders (why aren't my rules working?) I took it from 400+ to 186. I can now shower, dress, and take my daughter to Pre-School story time at the Library. Happy Tuesday. {Annette} Genius might be described as a supreme capacity for getting its possessors into trouble of all kinds. - Samuel Butler

FYI: Tylenol recall

fyi: Acetaminpohen is the generic drug name for "Tylenol". The real "Tylenol" is not affected, but the maker of many store-brand versions has begun a Class II recall from a large list of retailers. Millions of bottles of acetaminophen recalled for metal fragments November 9, 2006—A major manufacturer of store-brand acetaminophen has recalled 11 million bottles of the pain-relieving drug after discovering some were contaminated with metal fragments. Perrigo Co. found 200 caplets that contained metal fragments among 70 million that were passed through a metal detector. The fragments ranged in size from "microdots" to portions of wire one-third of an inch long. Wal-Mart, CVS Corp., Walgreen Co., and Costco Wholesale Corp. are among companies that Perrigo supplies with healthcare products The FDA did not know in which states the pills had been sold, but instead recommended that customers determine whether products they bought are being recalled by checking t

I got a job! A FULL-TIME job! It starts November 27th at the same place I am working now. But FT is what we need me to have. For sure the job goes through March, but possibly until June or July. The site is closing . But hopefully with me working that much and earning a lot more than I did at Fry's we can get caught up on bills and even out of debt.

Say Thank You

You know, ever since I married a Naval officer and actually, since I had close friends join the Armed Forces, I've become ... not necessarily more patriotic, but definitely more aware and supportive of our troops. If you go to this website, http://www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it, and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them...

That boy ...

Is going to be the death of me. He drives me crazy, he needs to be micromanaged to do his chores, which I tell you, is no fun. Makes a mom either want to tell him to go away so I can do it the right way or strangle him for being so obtuse. This morning I got him up early to re-do some of his chores and in the middle he asks me why I didn't get him up last night. I told that I was pretty upset and didn't want to deal with it. Well, that and Joy was actually asleep by 9:30 so Tim and I had the chance to go to bed at a decent hour and I really, really, really, really did not want to deal with him. Snuggling and watching House took priority. I felt the Black mama thing coming on. Though, as Tim has pointed out more and more often, Josh might need another dose of that. The flip side is, when I do that, my heart does it's special thing and I end up (in my own eyes) looking like a wimp because I can't enforce what I just said without either having a conniption fit (a la B

Learn something new everyday

So, I downloaded FilmLoop , which is a nifty program, but I wanted something with a little more control and/or simplicity. And I hate having multiple programs that basically do the same thing. I love Picasa and it has a slideshow function, but guess what??? You can't export the darn slideshow!!! Only if you make a gift CD!!!! So I did a search on Windows Help and came up with my own solution. It's a movie, but acts like a slideshow (I know you can do it in PowerPoint too), but I kinda like the effects I added. I'll upload it before the end of the week. Yes, I am having too much playing around with my photos. Just trying to get the best presentation effect. and oh yeah, thing #2 on my list of things I learned today: Okra came from Ethiopia, brought over by slaves. It just grows really well in the South. I've been prejudiced against okra since JHS or HS when I had to prepare it fresh. Some of the slimiest stuff I have ever had my hands on. And then my grandmother had m

Viking ship to ply North Sea; no invasion planned

Image
This is cool. I wonder if I will remember to keep track of it. POSTED: 10:15 a.m. EST, November 10, 2006 COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Dozens of volunteer sailors will follow in the wake of the Vikings next summer, crossing the North Sea to Ireland in a 100-foot (30-meter) replica of a Norse warship, museum officials said Friday. The slender long ship, named Havhingsten, or Stallion of the Sea, is one of the most ambitious Viking ship reconstructions to date, experts said. It has been modeled after a nearly 1,000-year-old vessel that was excavated in the Roskilde fjord, west of Copenhagen, the Danish capital. On July 2, the vessel will set sail from Roskilde with a crew of 65 who hope to learn more about Viking seamanship on a seven-week, 1,000-mile (1,700-kilometer) journey to Dublin -- a city founded by Vikings. "We will not sail dressed as Vikings, but we will try to understand how the ship and crew coped," said Martin Brandt Djupdraet, curator of the Viking Ship Museum in R

Guardian Unlimited Books | News | Peter Jackson enters dragons' den : " Peter Jackson enters dragons' den Staff and agencies Tuesday September 12, 2006 Guardian Unlimited Temeraire by Naomi Novik Enter the dragon ... Téméraire by Naomi Novik First hobbits then a giant gorilla and now Peter Jackson is turning his hand to an air force of dragons, manned by crews of aviators. Téméraire, a historical fantasy book series that sees squadrons of dragons fighting in the Napoleonic wars, has captured the imagination of the Lord of the Rings director. The plot centres on British naval captain Will Laurence, who seizes a French ship and discovers an unhatched dragon egg - a gift from the emperor of China to Napoleon. When the egg hatches, he is forced to become the dragon's keeper. The monster is called Téméraire (meaning 'Daring' in French). "
