The Hike

Image
The hike was AWESOME! The weather was cold, rainy, and overcast, but amazingly, this led to MUCH better pictures. Some of these I am going to print out BIG and frame. I showed them to a co-worker who is an Art Major and she wants copies of some! WOOT! Validation is good :) I think some of them are pretty awesome for me being an amatuer using a digital camera. Though honestly, I got some really good pointers from the hike leader who is a professional photographer. I need to learn about the manual functions on my camera and take my tripod next time. But I can look at these and feel peaceful again. As much as I complain about Oregon around this time of year, there is nothing like God's green earth to make you grateful and wonder about the greatness of it all. Definitely going to go again in the spring and get the spring colors. The hike started at Wahkeena Falls, then we had the option to drive or hike to Multnomah. I took so many photos and lost track of time, so I carpooled with the

White and Nerdy

OH MY GOSH! Weird Al does it again. Weird Al's unique and seemingly everlasting importance in music is best described by Chamillionaire, whose song "Ridin'" he parodies in "White & Nerdy": "It's one thing to go platinum. Where do you go from there? Then Weird Al calls."

Howloween Photos

Image
Come see the photos Joy and I took at the Zoo. Some of the ones she took are really good. Try guessing to see who took which ones. :HOWLOWEEN AT THE ZOO Kids love trick-or-treating, and Oregon Zoo provides a fun and safe setting for this traditional Halloween activity. Trick-or-treaters will complete an intriguing scavenger hunt leading them to activity stations around the zoo. Goodie bags filled with candy and prizes will be given out for completed hunts at the zoo’s exit. Waterfall Hike

Image
What I'm doing on Sunday :) Join Board member and photographer Ken Denis to photograph several of the Gorge's classic waterfalls. Spend about 30 minutes each at Wahkeena, Multnomah, and Horsetail Falls, and then hike the 2.7 mile trail back to Ponytail Falls. Optional trip to McCord Creek and the lower trail to Elowah Falls (1.6 miles). Leisurely pace; tripods welcome. Technorati Tags: hikes , Columbia River Gorge , photography

LibriVox

acoustical liberation of books in the public domain I have a very boring job at the moment. 5+hours of data entry and NOTHING BUT data entry. I am catching up on audiobooks and podcasts, and looking for more. I use Podiobooks , and they pointed me to LibriVox . Today's Selection (if it will fit) is LibriVox » The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde . And I thought a 1GB mp3 player had more than enough room .... books take up so much more space!

I Can't Do This

Plumb - I Can't Do This From the album Chaotic Resolve I woke up late Guess I’m never really early I hesitate, only to fail I get so tired, of procrastinating I need a change Chorus: I can’t do this I can’t do this I can’t do this by myself I can’t do this I can’t do this Oh God I need Your help I’m standing still I’m oh, so peaceful I can’t pretend, that I’m fine I get so ill, crazy agitated When I’ve not really died Chorus: Press into me Breathe me in Bask in me You’ll be free, to do anything Chorus: (2x’ s) Lyrics may not be reproduced without permission from the publisher. Boyfriend

My daughter has a boyfriend. She can't remember his name. When asked where she met him, she said "At work somehow". "At work?" I ask. She tells me it's one of the guys Daddy works with. We narrow it down to Rich. A handsome guy, tall, but married with two daughters!!! Oh goodness! She is going to be more than a handful when she hits puberty! -- Annette Sargent "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." -Robert A. Heinlein

Ok, I just thought this line was funny. "Please stay in your seats, do not light anything on fire, zoo animals are not allowed on the premises and for the love of all that is sacred, do not, I repeat: DO NOT touch my Wookiee. " and then go watch this .

what a night

Image
To quote Tim: "Our daughter won't go to sleep at a decent hour for a 4 yr-old, there's a possum in our backyard, and our cat has gone feral. And we don't even have a backyard! It's enough to drive a grown man to cry, or drink, or both. Cry in a beer?" So, tonight Tim was going to refill the cat's food and water (the cat being Tigerlily) and he see's another creature in our backyard. Calls me to confirm the siting. The damn opossum is in Tigerlily's bed acting like it owns the place. Lily we try to bring inside for the night so I can take her to the vet tomorrow if we can get her in the carrier and when Tim opens the back door to get her food she runs back outside. And through all of this, Joy has been awake and won't go to sleep, let alone stay in her room. Even after being bribed with a movie. When will my drugs kick in??? (LOL! Tylenol PM, don't get in a tizzy)

Google's YouTube acquisition is official - Download Squad

Google's YouTube acquisition is official - Download Squad : "Google's YouTube acquisition is official Posted Oct 9th 2006 4:54PM by Jordan Running Filed under: Internet, Video, Web services, Google, Social Software Google + YouTubeWow. It's not every day that all the big rumors turn out to be true. Google has just officially announced its acquisition of YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock. The press release wastes no time in attempting to reassure fearful users--the press release's second sentence is, 'Following the acquisition, YouTube will operate independently to preserve its successful brand and passionate community.' It goes on to say that YouTube will strengthen and compliment Google's existing video business, and that it will retain all of its existing employees and remain headquartered in San Bruno, California. YouTube has yet to release a statement. I, for one, welcome our new GooTube overlords."

Loving Husband

Your joke for the day ________________________________ A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem. While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150." The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home. The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $150?" The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance."

The Shire of Bend, Oregon

Image
Only in Oregon .... but I want to visit and see what they are like! The Shire of Bend, Oregon The Shire is a development that borrows its basic design concept, styling and features from an era where the sense of community, the beauty of the land and the interaction of the residents with the land had high value. The Shire brings the spirit of a great age to daily living. The Shire has many flavors of eighteenth century English architecture and landscaping chosen because the style of the period was enchanting, evoking good feelings of a simpler lifestyle than the present. The Shire is a place where just the beauty and charm of the grounds and the structures make you relax, smile and be happier. We set out to create a lifestyle rather than a subdivision.

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Marvel Musings - Cinematical

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: Marvel Musings - Cinematical: "Are you following the events of Marvel's Civil War summer crossover spectacular? Was I the only one to get an instant mental picture of Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire slugging it out upon hearing the Iron Man casting information shortly after reading the latest Amazing Spider-Man? And who else is getting tired of the Iron Spider suit? I suppose that's all good and well, since he's getting a costume change soon enough anyway."

Chocolate

I received my first chocolate yesterday from Germany! I find it slightly ironic that it has hazelnuts in it. I get chocolate from half-way around the world with hazelnuts in it, go figure. For those of you who don't know, hazelnuts are big here in Oregon, like one of the major exports. Off to wrestle with Joy, take meds, and hate being a woman this week, or at least till the heat therapy kicks in. Technorati Tags: chocolate , postcrossing , hazelnuts , Oregon
