Randomness from a 4-yr-old

April 27, 2006

it's a 9-minute video, so make sure you have time on your hands and a good understanding of "toddler-ese"

TIM WRITES: So Joy is singing along with Petra's I Will Call Upon The Lord on the way to Christy's...I have her sing it for Christy... Jo

bit by bit

There's a Wiggles song that keeps playing in my head as I (methodically, ploddingly) get through all my past due homework. Thank goodness for understanding teachers. Seems this term is just plagued with technical difficulties and whatnot. And the geek in me is still trying to find the optimum software and settings for my USB TV Tuner. Seems like maybe a TiVo, or even *gasp* a VCR would cause less headache, but be infintitely less portable :) Now to find the time to watch my class, get my writings done, and stay caught up on all that other stuff that lemming pointed out :)

Random acts of intelligence

April 25, 2006
ONE. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, "I love you," mean it.

FIVE. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way
to live life completely.

TEN. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
when did I get so inefficient? i have totally forgotten how to study effectively and run around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to get 30 things done at once. Ok, two or three things. I am like, getting so far behind in my classes!

What Portlanders do when the sun comes out

fountain at waterfront

The sun is out! It's only 65 or 70, let's play in the water. =)

This picture was taken at the waterfront in Portland. My picture phone can't capture what I saw, which was about 5-6 children playing in the fountain while their parents looked on. It was an incredibly nice day though.

so, does anyone want to be my math tutor? I'm beginning to remember that the only reason I made it through Calculus was because I had a LOT of help. Taking this class on an empty stomach and semi-empty brain is not the smartest thing I have done (translation, I need more sleep and a better grasp of the material being taught).

And the damn change machine ate my dollar!!!! I'm thirsty! and hungry! and now a dollar short. Does that mean I'll be a day late for something later? :)

/endbabble
Ever have one of those days when everything that comes out of your mouth seems to come out wrong? misinterpreted? and then you try to backtrack and make sense of what you just said, to get your meaning across, and that just makes it worse?

So then you finally give up and shut up.

Darn, I still have like 4 other posts from march to get up ... here's to insomnia (it's actually 1:31 AM, but I started this window hours ago). Math class in just a few hours. ouch

Week Two Quick Write

April 13, 2006
Week Two Quick Write:
(class assignment that I thought I might share)
Think of a person in your immediate family who provided a positive support to you. Share some experiences and attributes this person possesses. How has this made a positive impact on your life?

The first person who comes to mind is my grandmother. During my parents divorce, my brothers and I moved in with her. Throughout my schooling (late elementary through high school) she encouraged me to follow my dreams of being a doctor and helped me academically while also encouraging my love of learning and ambition. I was never told that I couldn’t do something if it was related to my dreams. She seemed to share my ambition and showed pride when I met goals and accomplishments or exceeded those I had set for myself. She also taught me that if I work hard, it’s ok to give myself a break when I need it. She taught me to be self-reliant, creative, made me aware of my “bedside manner” or rather lack thereof, and reminded me often that it usually takes more than book smarts to make it in this world. The positive impact: I know that when and if I set my mind to something, I can and will usually accomplish it. I don’t fear hard work, even if I don’t like it all the time, but the things you really want usually take a lot of hard work and sacrifice.

April 11, 2006

Enjoy. I had a smirk on my face for a while since I read this at work and didn't want to bust out laughing for no obvious reason ... And now it's time to get back to my paper.

What's Your True Color?

April 2, 2006
Annette, your true color is Green!Take this test at Tickle

You're green, the color of growth and vigor. Good-hearted and giving, you have a knack for finding and bringing out the best in people. Green is the most down-to-earth color in the spectrum — reliable and trustworthy. People know they can count on you to be around in times of need, since your concern for people is genuine and sincere. You take pride in being a good friend. For you, success is measured in terms of personal achievement and growth, not by status or position. Rare as emeralds, greens are wonderful, natural people. It truly is your color!

Changing ISPs

April 1, 2006
Hey folks, I am still in the process of upgrading my machine (took freaking forever to back stuff up and get my old HD out and my new one in .... my laptop manufacuturer really DOESN'T want users installing their own HD's) .... um, oh yeah. Verizon FiOS has an awesome deal, so we are switching to them. In the meantime, if you aren't already, start using annette's email address or for email instead of my comcast addy. I have to move everything over to sargentcentral in the next few days, please forgive any broken links.
